This time, we are going to explore a topic that is essential in the daily life of Spaniards: coffee. Spain has a rich tradition in coffee culture, and today I will tell you about the different types of coffee you can find in this country, as well as some useful words and phrases for your visit to a Spanish coffee shop.
Types of coffee in Spain
- Café solo: Let’s start with the strongest and most traditional of all. A café solo is the equivalent of the Italian espresso, it is ideal if you like strong coffee.
- Café cortado: Do you prefer a milder flavor? You can order a café cortado, which is a black coffee “cut” with a small amount of hot milk.
- Café con leche: If you like your coffee creamier, café con leche is perfect. It is a mixture of equal parts black coffee and hot milk.
- Café americano o café solo largo: If you are looking for something lighter, an American coffee is a coffee to which hot water is added. It is ideal if you prefer a less concentrated drink.
- Café con hielo: In summer, an iced coffee is a favorite choice for many people. A cup of coffee, a glass of ice and you mix them together.
- Café clarito/manchado o café con leche corto de caféffee latte: If you like smooth coffee and milk, this is the best option for you. It is very little coffee with a lot of milk.
- Café descafeinado: It is coffee without caffeine. All coffees have their version in decaffeinated coffee.
